Get Started Omaha will highlight 30 emerging companies during a Startup Showcase and Pitch Competition on April 6. The event began spotlighting innovative companies within the Omaha region in 2014. As the presenting sponsor, Husch Blackwell has been able to utilize its network of 25 offices across the country to bring the competition nationwide in 2022.

Startups from the Midwest and across the country, which have raised less than $1 million in funding and will have an opportunity to network and showcase their businesses to a panel of judges and attendees, which will include investors and potential customers.

Texas based SpenDebt was introduced to Husch Blackwell startup attorneys when they were awarded a St. Louis Arch Grant in 2018. Founders, Kiley and Ty’Lisha Summers, have stayed connected to Husch Blackwell over the years. “As Black founders, Get Started Omaha is an opportunity to secure capital as less than 1% of investment goes to Black founders” Kiley explained. “Additionally, this event will help drive exposure for our company, connect with other amazing founders, investors and potential customers”.

The event begins with a Startup Showcase. The startups have been selected to represent five industry tracks, including healthcare and education; manufacturing, transportation and logistics; food and agriculture; energy, natural resources and real estate; and technology and financial services. The Startup Showcase will allow startups to present their products or services and visions with investors, business executives and other interested community members. Six startups—a winner from the five industry tracks and the people’s choice selection—will then pitch to a panel of three judges for an opportunity to win $25,000.

“The financial award motivates founders to go,” said Casey Kidwell, an Omaha-based attorney with the Husch Blackwell Startups group. “But really, I find it is about the connections, and we’re so excited to be in person this year. We find the connections that are going to be made here can be really, really valuable. If the founders can meet other startups or investors or service providers that can help them along their journey, that’s fantastic.”

Steven Coen, founder of Kansas City based SaRA Health realizes the power of showcasing and opportunity to connect at Get Started Omaha. “We would love to connect with Omaha-based Orthopedic surgeons/groups while we are in town. We help increase clinic profitability by reducing adverse events like MUAs and decreasing admin burden through our surgery journey guide platform.”
